NEW PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

On, Saturday afternoon the foundation stone of tho new Knox Presbyterian Church, Lower Hutt, was hud b wthe Hon. J. G. W. Aitken. M.L.C. There was a large attendance of parishioners, and many people from Wellington were J. McCaw presided,’ and prayers were offered by the Rev. ,T. H. .Mackenzie. Mrs McCaw officiated at the organ. , , , ~ Aiiologies were received trom tno Prime Minister and Sir Joseph Ward, who expressed their regret at not being able to witness the ceremony. The need of a now church at the Hutt has been very noticeable of late years. The growth of the Hutt had been rapid, and the old church is situated in a very inconvenient and undesirable site. Even in the summer the church has been too distant for old people and children. In winter the position is worse, and the erection of a new church, which will be completed at about the end of June, is in accordance with the desire of all the Presbyterians of the Hutt. The Hon. J. G. W. Aitken, who was thanked for his attendance, stated that it was amazing the way the number of Presbyterians had increased in New Zealand. He read figures confirming this statement. , Tho collection taken up amounted to XSO.
