COMBING OUT
To tho Editor "N.Z. Times." Sir,—ln reference to the combing out. so long promised by tire Minister for Defence and not carried out, i suggest that a start be made on the Military Camps around Wellington. There are dozens of so-called non-commissioned officers kicking their heels around these camps for considerably over twelve months, drawing their pay, living like fighting cocks, getting their leave, and generally having a good time. What excuse has the Minister for Defence for keeping these men in camp ? If those non-com's, had joined as private soldiers they would be away to the front many months ago. instead or eating their heads off at the expense of the ratepapers. Sir James Allen’s partiality for keeping tho Military Camps as a nursery for officers of every grade is a grave blot on tho department. Many of thgso robust young men from all parts of the Dominion have found a safe refuge in tho military camps, and have escaped their responsibilities* owing to tho laxity, of the Minister for Defence.—l am, etc., m-dJouw.- ONLY A PRIVATE.
