A TEACHER'S RESIGNATION

! Press Association. AUCKLAND. April 2A. The Education Board to-day considered the resignation from tho teaching staff of the Teohnical College of Henry W. Mayo, who recently was fined .£25 for publishing a statement indicating disloyalty. Tho resignation was tendered in consequence of his conviction. Mir G. W. Murray said that the committee of the Technical College, of which ha was a, member, decided to refer the matter to tho board, as only half the committee mombers were present when it came before them. The question was whether the board should accept the resignation or not. At first ho had thought that to accept it was the only course, but he hod been informed that Mr Mayo had previously acted in a patriotic way, havine assisted in the patriotic work of the college; ho had also been instrumental in getting tho Boy Scouts to salute returned soldiers. Atr George George, director of the collego, said that Mr Mayo was an excellent teaoher, his subjects being mathematics and Fronoh. His actions in tho past had not indicated disloyal sentiments. Ho had subscribed generously according to his to patriotic funds. Mr F. W. H. Brindsen said that the court had punished the man, and he moved that Mayo be retained'" on the teaching staff. Mr Murray seconded the motion, pro forma, so that it might bo discussed. Nono of the members (one or two of whom had left the meeting) had anything to say on the matter, and tho chairman | thereupon put tho motion. There were one or two and no "Noes." The i chairman declared tho motion carried.
