Ho attended Nelson College from 1910 till 1914, and at the time of his enlistment he was on the staff of the local branch of tho Union,Bank. He left Now Zealand with tho 10th Reinforcements for Franco early in 191 G. At the time of Iris death ho was in his 21st year. PRIVATE JOHN OWEN, ALAI. Private John Owen, M.M., reported killed in action in France on April sth, was the youngest 'son of Mrs John Owen, of Hepburn street, Ponsouby. lie was educated at King's College, llcmuorn, and at the time of his enlistment in tho 7th Reinforcements, was in the employ of the Waihi Goldmining Company as an electrical ongi< nccr. Ho was awarded tho Military Medal eight months ago. SERGEANT I). STOUPE, M.M. ■ AdVice has just boon received Sergeant D. Stonpc, nephew of Mr Jr Stoupo. of Oncbunga, has been wounded again, this making tho fifth time wounded. He oulistcd with the Main Body, and left with tiro Ist Wellington Infantry Regiment. Ho also gamed tho Military Medal at the battle of Messines. RIFLEMAN J. AIULLANY. A cable received by Airs L. Mullany, nf Lower Hutt, states that her son. Rifleman J. Alullany, has been killed in action on tho Western front on April 6th. Hlo loft witii tho 10th Reinforcements, and was wounded in tho battle of the Somme. He had many comrades in Petono and Lower Hutt. SECOND-LIEUTENANT H. N. COLEMAN. Second-Llontenant Herbert Napier Coleman, reported killed, was the son of Air J. H. Coleman, of Waititirau, Napier, one 6f tho prominent residents of the Hawke's Way district. He enlisted and went into the non-commis-sioned officers’ training camp, gaming his first star before leaving New Zealand, about a year ago. He was a married man; a step-brother of Mr E. J. Watt the well-known Australian, horse-ownor, also of Mrs T. H. Lowry, of Hawke’s Bay, who bn s taken a very active and generous, part an patriotic work.* GUNNER A. V. E. MOFFITT. Gunner V. E. Aloffitt, N.Z.t.A.j reported twice wounded in the abeto* men, volunteered for the Main Body, but was too late. Ho .subsequently, left with the 2nd Reinforcements, nowas for some time in Egypt, and was then transferred to Franco. He is a son of Mr J. C. H. Moffitt, employed in Messrs E. W. AXills, of this city. GUNNER F. H. BARKER. Airs IV. Barker, of BaV received news that her second son, Gunner F. H. Barker, was killed m action in France on April oth. kuunor Barker was 24 years of age, and went away with the 14tli Reinforceihents. ' Ho was employed for a number of years as a motor-mechanic by Alessrs Sutherland and Rankin. Mercer street. PRIVATE F. B. GILL. Airs Alfred Gill, of South Street, Nelson, received word from the Almister for Defence that her son, Private F, B. Gill, died of wound® on April l-ith. Private Gill, who left with the 18th Reinforcements, wn s on. Homo Service in England for somo twelve months, and recovering his usual health again, bo wns sent to France a few months ago. . He was well known in Nelson and surrounding district, where he, with others who. have given, their lives for their country, was widely respected. ■
