The Kowhai loft Greymouth yesterday at 9.30 a.m. for Wellington with ft full load of coal. Tho Japanese Steamship Company, Japan's largest maritime corporation, has increased, its capital from 415,404,000 to i610,(M>.000. and will build 50 large steamers’aggregating 300.000 tons ns an addition to its existing fleet of 102 vessels, totalling 440.030 tons. SLIP. Tho Opawa was brought off the slip yesterday afternoon to enable, tho Raruwa to oooupy the. cradle during to-day. Tho Opawa will go back on the silip tomorrow to complete hor overhaul, and will ho relaunched on Monday morning. Tho Nguhere' was to have left Whnngarei last night for Napdeir amd WoUa-ng-ton. If conditions are favourable the vessel will reach here on Sunday, otherwise she cannot be expected before Tuesday. The Ngatoro left Napier yesterday with a load of ehe&p for Lyttelton. STORE COASTAL TRADERS. The Dunedin. “Star” says ttiut, the auxiliary schooner Dolly Vardeu, .which has been, laid up at Bluff for some time, wiHl enter the Duriedi n-B luff-Timor uOnuna.ru trade very shortly. This vessel -was formerly engaged in the Bluff fishing industry. She is at present being ,refitted out at Bluff, and will probably ‘ arrive at Dunedin in a. few days. Tho Dolly Vevrdem is’ atn auxiliary schooner of 29 ton, gross register, and will carry about 50 toms of cargo. -She was bniSt at Mangonui Non- Zealand, in 1872 for fhe Port- Pegasus Fishing Company, Ltd., and is of the following dimensions Length sSft 9in .breadth 15ft Sin, and depth Cft. Captain D’O-ridnnt, who is part-owner of the vessel, will l>e' in command. Ho is at present at Bluff superintending tho work of refitting . Air H. Tho Annie Hill is to be berthed there after she comes off the- slip for repairs, prior to taking on running, and tho Lilia will also berth there when she is ready to take in her engines. It , was deemed necessary to have a couple of extra piles to bear tho extra strain-
The Annie Hill is at present oi> the slip getting stripped of part of her coppering, and she is also having new nieces of stout timber substituted in the topsides.
.Tho Union Company’s hulk Belle Isle, which is in the dock for repairs, will come out on Saturday, bo ns to enable the ifararoa to dock on IVlpuday morning. This is tho first time tho Bello Isle has been in dock for eleven years, and it n'as onlv on account of her continual heavy leaking that it was found necessary to dock her.
