CALLED TO CAMP

SEVENTY-NINE APPEALS DEALT WITH BY THIRD WELLINGTON BOARD. Seventy-nine appeals, 55 of which' relate to seamen and gremen, were down for hearing yesterday by the Third Wellington Military Service Board—Messrs IV. S. Moorhouse (chairman), M. J. Mack, and A. 0. Considine. Captain Baldwin appeared as military representative. MARINE ENGINEER EXEMPTED.. Mr W. A. Kennedy (manager for the Union Steam Snip Company, Wellington) appealed for an exemption in respect of Herbert T. Atchison, marine engineer. The case was adjourned indefinitely on the usual conditions. FIFTY SEAMEN AND FIREMEN, EXEMPTED. Mr J. Adams (president of tho Federated Seamen’s Onion) appeared on behalf of all but seven of the seamen and firemen, tho remainder being individual appeals. Some fifty of tho cases were adjourned indefinitely, five were dismissed, and three or four were adjourned for short periods to allow of further inquiries being made. A SOUTH AFRICAN VETERAN. Jasper Ashworth (labourer, Wellington), who is the proud possessor of a South African medal, with the Belmont, Modder river, Paardeburg, Driefontcin, and Belfast bars, was excused on tho ground of being over ago. The appellant stated that ho had enlisted, hut had been turned down twice. . Ho would like to have got another medal. Captain Baldwin: “I am sure you would.” OVER AGE. The appeal of Bernard Martin Con* nolly (storeman, Wellington) was allowed; the appellant being over military age. FATHER OF EIGHT CHILDREN. The appeal of William Patrick Conrick (earner, Porirua), who wrote stating that he had eight children under fourteen years of ago, was dismissed, as the appellant did not appear, and had failed to enclose in his letter tho necessary certificates. WOOL-OLASSER GETS LEAVE. The appeal of Peter James McKee (wool-classer, Petone), permanently employed,by the Goar Moat Company, was adjourned for three months. WRONGLY CLASSIFIED. Harry Bates (carpenter, Brooklyn)* represented by Mr C. B. O’Donnell, appealed on the .ground that ho was wrongly included in Class A. The appeal was allowed. William David Jones (marine engineer, Hataitai) produced certificates showing that he was entitled to be in Class B of:the Second Division, and was re-olassified accordingly. Stanley James A’Court (tramway motofman, Kilbirnie) was also irons, ferred frpm Class A to a later class. The case of Edward E. Brown (plumber; Wellington) was adjourned till the first sitting in June to enable - him to secure the necessary certificates in support of his claim that he was wrongly placed in Class A. Joseph Thomas Bowers Brooklyn) produced certificates" showing that ho was entitled to bo in Class E of the Second Division, and was transferred from Class A accordingly. •. ■ . Harry Adame (driver, Wellington) was transferred from Class A to Class C. John W. Bailey .(carrjofF Wellington) was transferred to Class D. G. J. A. Blackie (letter-carrier, Wellington) was transferred to Class B. Wellington) waq transferred to Class C. ■ Alfred Ernest Cocker (tram conductor, Newtown) was also transferred from Class A. - - ->'■ ' - - D-vid H. Costley- (stonemason.-Wel-lington) was transferred from Class A. William Ewart Dempster ( bootclicker, Kilbirnie) was ' transferred to Class C. The appellant, it transpired, previously volunteered, hilt was passed out as medically unfit.
