DEVELOPMENT IN THE SOUTH
MB ORAIGIE’S PLAN. I*r<M3 Association. TEVIARIJ, January 14. Mr J. Graigie, M.P., {publishes a letter urging the formation of a South Canterbury Development League to encourage the extension of industries (urbjvn and rural)., dairying and fruitgrowing, the encouragement of closer settlement, the application of electricity and the extension of branch railways. Ho invites all tho local authorities to consider tho proposal, pointing out that thousands of soldiers will want homes, and that South Canterbury could accommodate many. Mr Oraigie is of opinion that other parts of tho South Island should follow Otago’s example, as this island is stagnant in population and output compared with tho North.
