Xlo~is an Auckland boy. twenty-one years of age, and although it is only twenty montns since he left Now Zealand, he graduated at the Oxford Flying School and obtained his wings and commission. Ho has been engaged in eight months’ continuous service as fast scout;on- tho Moslem front. During one of his last flights he was attacked, by a number of Uvrmau machines. His observer was badly wounded, and bis machine was riddled. Noticing- that his fellow officer was likely to bleed to death, ha cleverly manoeuvred and mad® a dash fox his own Line. He landed safely, and bis observer is now almost well again. An attack of bronchitis and nervo stiain sent Lieutenant fehistcd to hospital. Ho , has been granted months’ leave in which to visit Now Zealand and recuperate. Second Lieutenant Darlcy Russel* Rendle, who was killed in action on October 10th,. was the eldest son of Leutonant-Colonel C. E. Eusscl-ltendle, N.Z.M.C., of Ashburton (now P.M.O. Samoa), and was in his 22nd year. He received his earlier education in Engj land, anti afterwards was at Christ’s College and at Lincoln College, subsequently entering a bank at Ashburton. listed, and left with an early Reinforcement, joining the 2nd- Canterbury Infantry Battalion, as corporal: Ho saw service at Gallipoli, m Egypt, and in Franco, and was recommended for his commission in the Imperial Army for gallantry on the field. After a period of training in England, he was gazetted to the Uth Battalion, Devonshire Regiment, in which corps his father was medical officer for .some time. Altogether he had seen thirtythree months’ active service when his career was ended. His younger brother, Hilary, is now in England, in a training corps, preparatory to serving in thf Imperial Army.
