Rebellious scenes occurred in a Berlin working-class district on Sunday owing to the efforts of tbo police to suppress hunger aud peace demonstrations. There was fierce fighting, in the course of which tbo police used firearms, it is reported with heavy casualties. Telegrams from Zurich report that the rioting has been traced to German propaganda designed to disrupt the army. IN FAVOUR OP PEACE MANY SABBATH MEETINGS HELD. Australian and N.Z Cable Association. ' AMSTERDAM, November 20. Many meetings were held throughout Germany on Sunday night in favour of an early peace. Herr Scheidemann addressed a crowded gathering in Dresden. All the meetings passed resolutions in favour of the Bolshevik peace proposals, including no annexations and no indemnities. SOLDIERS AND SHILORS BECOME VOTERS IN BRITAIN AT NINETEEN. HEW SHIPPING SCHEME SHIPOWNERS CIRCULARISED. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright Australian and N.Z, Cable Association. LONDON, November 20. The Ministry of Shipping has addressed a letter to all shipowners explaining the new scheme for the control of merchant tonnage. The letter requisitions all linens affected by the scheme, and asks for an assurance that owners will continue to manage vessels so requisitioned. A French Eastern communique states: Reciprocal artillery activity has been resumed on the whole front, notably west of Vardar, in the Coma bend, north of Monastic. The Russians repelled an enemy reconnaissance in the lakes reg.oh. Bi'itish airmen dropped bombs in tbe Struma Valley, and caused an explosion at Museulu. A Swiss journal states that French and American financial groups are considering the construction of a canal from the Rhine to the Rhone. Americans are willing to find forty millions sterling- for the construction. It is reported that ton millions have already been subscribed.
