matches to be ebsumed. A proposal from the Wellington Cricket Association, that home and homo representative matches between Wellington and Canterbury should bo played during the present season, wa« considered by the committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association on. Wednesday evening. Mr 1). Eedpath presided. Tho secretary of the VVeliington Association stated that ho had in his possession a letter from the Minister for Defence, in which Sir James Allen expressed the opinion that clnb and representative cricket could bo indulged in with advantage to players and without iniurv to the work of the military. In moving that the Wellington proposal should bo accepted. Mr W. Simpson pointed out that tho original idea underlying the abandonment of representative cricket, that it might interfere with voluntary recruiting, had disappeared now. Ho also suggested that Canterbury’s share of tho net proceeds should be earmarked for the grounds fund. The first match should- be played in Christchurch at Christmas time. Mr W. 11. Winsor seconded the motion. and endorsed Mr Simpson’s views. With regard to the proposal to earmart tho net proceeds for the ground* fund, Mr E. B. Ward urged that it wa* necessary first to safeguard the associa, tion’s own funds, as no subscription* were being collected from the clubs, and there would need to be something in hand to finance the homo and home matches. Tho allocation of the funds should he left until after. Mr C. S. Thompson, thought that any surplus should he given to patriotic and that later the a-ssoevation. should eo to the public for money for grounds. Mr A. Cant said that the Otago Association looked upon Christmas time as its prerogative for a match with Canterbury, and that it should be sounded on the subject. After, further discussion, the committee decided, to approve the principle of resuming interprovincial matches, to write to the Otago and Auckland Associations. for their view* on the matter, and to drier mating definite arrangements until replies have been received from those bodies.
