Macirtdoe, reported that ho had been endeavouring to induce the Union Co. to take up a Bchexne for tho insurance of members of the Guild serving under war risks, but no reply had yet been received, f On Friday morning the Anchor Co. s steamer Waimea is due at Wellington from Tarakohe with a cargo of cement. The vessel i» to leave here on Friday night for Nelson and 'West Tonnage in tho United States is still very .difficult to procure, and. steamers are chartered at extremely high rates. It is anticipated that there wall ho a great shortage of freight room, and the outlook is for. continuance of a strong freight market with a possible further advance. BADEN POWELL. The temporary shortage of waterside labour yesterday, which was owing to unusual circumstances, necessitated the postponement of the departure of the steamer Baden Powell from Wellington, for Wanganui and New Plymouth. The vessel is now timed to leave here this evening for those ports. From New Plymouth the Baden Powell will go to Puponga to load coal for Lyttelton. Cargo will be received up. to 3 p.m. today. THE PETIKI. The steamer Putiki is proceeding from Lyttelton to Dunedin and Timaru. From the last-mentioned port the vessel will come on to Wellington, where she is due about next Monday. From this port the ■ vessel will sail for Wanganui. WARNING TO MARINERS. The Marina-JJepartment issues a warning to mariners that two cable buoys have been laid off Terawbiti, and consultute a danger to navigation. The magnetic bearings of the buoys are respectively- Karori rock south, 88deg. east, Teramhiti north: and Karori rook south. 53deg. oast. Terawhiti north 15deg. west. THE CALM, The Canterbury Co.’s steamer Calm was hampered in cargo-working at Wellington yesterday by the prevailing temporary insufficiency of labour, and is now timed to leave here this afternoon for Wanganui. The vessel is duo back here on Thursday morning, and is to sail on Thursday night for Bluff, Dunedin, Timaru, and .Lyttelton. THE JOHN. The steamer John procured a prow and left Lyttelton yesterday for pamaru, from which port she will sail for Lyttelton and Wellington. The vessel is due Tier© on Friday night, and is to sail on Saturday for Wanganui. THE HINEMOA. The. Government steamer Hinemoa finished , landing-stores at Cape Maria lighthouse at noon yesterday, and sailed for Hokianga. The vessel will probably got away from Hokianga this evening for Kaipara.
