HOROWHENUA NOTES
(From Our Owon Correspondent.) OTAKI, September 2b. The “strike” of pupils at the ■Native College has caused much comment hero, and it is understood that a meeting of trustees will be held immediately to deal with the matter. Thomas Hullan, a deserter, was yesterday arrested at IVlanakau -by Constable Sathorley, and to-day handed over to the military authorities at Wellington. ' A report gained currency late last evening that a boy had been drowned in the Mangapauri creek. A search was immediately made, but as the water was found to be only knee-deep, it was considered the lad had sought fresh fields, ho having stated his intention some time ago of doing so. Mr I/. M. Isitt, M.P., intends to visit Otaki to take part in a united church, service on October 7th. The recent flood was responsible for washing away several chains of road in the' Otaki Gorge district The road has only recently, been made. ' The Otaki Dairy Company to-day dispatched a largo quantity of whey butter to Wellington.
