It has been decided that tho seventh conference of the Harbours Association shall not be held this year. The executive are pressing strongly on the attention of the Government the important question of the exemption of Government chartered vessels from payments of dues. The Wootton will probably not reach Wellington until Sunday from Lyttelton, and will sail on the return trip on Mon. day. The Union Company were advised by telegraph that early yesterday afternoon the Greymouth bar was so bad that there were no movements on the afternoon tide. The Mapourika, from Wellington via ports, was waiting in the roadstead. The message' added that if the • Mapourika was able to enter on tide late last night she would sail on the return trip to, Wellington at noon M-day. Williams), presented to' the Lyttelton Harbour Board on Wednesday morning: "At the request of tho Government, through its Naval Adviser, the work of, constructing a guard-house, and barricades. with largo gates .to allow for. railway traffic, had been put in hand' Tho guard-house on No, 6 jetty is nearly ready for occupation, and tho necessary, gates; some of .them 35. feet wide, are being made. The returns for the port of Lyttelton for the month of August show that 172 vessels with a total net tonnage of 124,115 arrived in port, as compared; with 17S vessels aggregating 152,211 tons, the returns for August, 1916. FOB AKITIO AND NAPIEB. Johnston and Co. advise that the Richardson steamer - Kontunni is -to load cargo at Wellington for Napier on Monday and Tuesday, and for Akitio on ■ Tuesday The vessel will not receive any cargo for Gisborne, which, however, will be shipped by the Bipple on Monday and Tuesday. The Koutunui left Napier last night for Blackhead. Cape Turnagain and Wellington. She Is oua here on Sunday.
