“The professional politician in thi* country does not count for very much in my mind,” said Mr J. A. Frostick at a meeting of the 'Christchurch Chamber of Commerce, and a smile went round tho members. Ho added that the people would have to rely on their own efforts very much more in the future than in the past. Instead of_going to the Government for everything, they should get together, as business men, in various forms of national life, and ’ see that tho best was done by those most capable for the work. They had assumed too much when, they assumed that a member of Parliament or Minister was an authority on every subject under the sun. They should see to it that the country was legislated for in the interests of the happiness and welfare of the people. Referring to the proposal mate the whole of the dairying interests of South Auckland into one cooperative concern, which was discussed by the interested companies about eighteen months ago, Mr Pacey, at the recent annual meeting of the KewZealand Dairy/ Association, said there had not been/ much said during the past season about the matter, but the movement was not by any means dead. There had been much thought, and some discussion, which showed that the opinion of certain essential interests was coming round to recognition that an affiliation of interests would alone ensure tho best for the producer and for the industry alike. He repeated the opinion he had expressed last year that, it certainly would come. Tho sooner itbc bettor for all concerned, for present conditions were wasteful and harmful in the extreme.
