Mr W. G. Riddell? S.M., is at present confined to his homo through an attack of influenza. Mr W. Newton, of Factories, who has been visiting Auckland, returned, to Wellington yctterday. Mr 11. Holland, Mayor of Christchurch, is expected in Wellington on Friday to attend the National War Funds Council. ■ Mr J. A. Frostick, Canterbury 'Commissioner on the National Efficiency Board, has been visiting Wellington on official matters in connection with the board. Mr G. W. Bingham, engineer to the Laron Borough Council, who has undergone two serious operations in a private hospital, is rapidly” improving"and is expected to return to his'home next Wednesday. - At the meeting,of the Victoria College Council last evening, Mr F. H. Baketveil was appointed to represent the Council on the Tutorial Committee in place of Mr T. R. Fleming, who has been transferred to Dunedin. Reference was made at last night’s meeting of the Football Association to Corporal Friokleton, who has been awarded the Victoria -Cross. Private Friklcton was formerly a member of St. David’s Football Club. Sergeant-Major Rov Copeland, of tho Medical Corps who was recently mentioned in Sir Douglas Haig’s dispatches as “deserving of special mention,” i* a son of Mr Charles A, Copeland, storekeeper, of Douglas. Taranaki, who was formerly on the staff of John Duthio and Co.. Wellington. Miss Dorothy Brunton. who will soon be leaving Australia, has received a letter from the trenches in Franco, in which the writer states that the Australians entered Bapauuie first, headed by their band. On leaving Australia Mr Waldron was engaged to create several leading roles in productions of Mr David Belaeoo in New York. ilr Alexander Charles Boyd, who formerly field the position of Deputy-Post-master-Gcncral for. British llurmah, and afterwards went, to Calcutta as aa official in the Indian Civil Service, Jias died sudeuly. Ten years ago Ills health declined, and he left a position na postal account examiner in Calcutta to go to Auckland, where lie lived in retirement until his death. Ho came of a distinguished military family in the Old Country. Mis father,, became,a .baronet. Admiral Sir David Boyd yyag.Jus .granduncle. and a cousin was Sir James Skinner. Mr Boyd leaves a widow, but no family. A son of Mr John Gallic, of Wellington. Lieutenant Victor James Gallic, R.F.A.. has been awarded the MiEtary Cross for bravery in tho field. He went to Samoa with tho Advance Guard for nine months, and on, hi? return to New Zealand left for England at" his own expense,and was immediately given acomm lesion in the Royal Field Artillery. He was wounded in the battle' of Yprej, and came through the iiomme fighting without a scratch. Lieutenant Gallic is an old Wellington College boy, and at tile outbreak of war was a sergeant :c D Battery. He is 26 years of age. aim has two brothers at the front;- Lieutenant Oscar Gallie, also of the R.F.A., and Private Clyo Gallie, of the, 25th Reinforcements.
