MAGISTRATE’S COURT
POLICE CASES. Mr S. B. McCarthy, S-M-, dealt with the followiticr polico oae©s in tho Itagistrate’s Court yesterday : Annio Laurenson, on a charge of assaulting Annie Clark so as to do her bodily harm, was dealt with under the Police Offences Act. Defendant was bound over to keep tho peace for twelve months in a bond of J2IOO or two sureties of -£SO eachEdward Mayo Kebbell for insobriety was convicted and fined, £2, and two first offenders for n similar offence had their hail of 20s estreated. “PUT IN THE BOOT.” Henry Jensen and Ernest Leshke, two powerfully .built men, each of, whom was over six feet in height, did. not admit , a charge of inciting a prisoner to resist 'arrest. Constable. James Scarry stated that he hod a man under arrest for drunkenness on Saturday night in Tory street. While proceeding to the police station with his man, the defendants, who were standing in a doorway, incited the prisoner to resist. Jensen said to the prisoner: “Don’t go with a 'cop/ give him a go for it.” Leglike said.: “Put ifi the boot,” and hooted. Constable Ryan, who was close behind, arrested Jensen. Constable Ryan and Sergeant Cruickshant gave corroborative evidence. Jensen, (to Constable Ryan): , '"Why did vou strike me at the police station?" His Worship: “Did you strike this man?" . Constable Ryan: “No sir! Certainly not." The incident was practically a continuation of the riot, and Mr McCarthy said he was satisfied that the defendants utter the words for the purpose of creating a disturbance. Each" accused was convicted and fined £5; la default of payment to bo imprisoned for one month.
