Johnson’s definition of tho difference between the well-mannered man and the ili-mnnnered has truth as well as exuberance. “One immediately attracts vour liking, the other your aversion. You love the one till you find reason to hate him; you hate the other t-H y°u find reason to love him.” Is not the fate of many Cabinet* due to the presence or absence ol the essential quality.!
