MAGNETIC STORMS

Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, August 10. The Magnetic Observatory reporta that during the brilliant display of the Aurora Australis last night a very large magnetic storm was registered. The storm assumed an extraordinary oscillatory character,' and continued violent for five hours. At 8 o’clock this morning another large storm commenced. Both storms of Aurora were undoubtedly associated' with abnormal solar activity. The director is of opinion that the solar activity has no connection with the recent earthquakes.
