From Our Own Correspondent. OTAKI, Friday. High prices were made for fat stock at Levin sale yards on Tuesday, when a line of eighty 2-tooth Roscommon ewes, offered by Mr Fred Davies, of Koputoroa, realised £2 15s —probably a local record. Seventy wethers realised 38s each, forty wethers 46s each, 21-year bullocks <LI9 12s. and 21-year heifers £l3 12s 6d. At the last meeting of the Levin Borough Council a resolution was passed regretting that the Prime Minister had been disappointed in acquiring a block of land, near Levin, for a soldiers’ settlement. and failed to see why the Minister should be disappointed. The council considered there was suitable land in tie neighbourhood, and was of the opinion that it should be secured. It was decided to form a deputation to wait on the Prime Minister relative to the matA magnificent view of the Aurora (southern lights) was obtained in this district last evening. It is estimated that nearly 70,000 violets were sent from Otaki alone for “Violet Day” in Wellington. This was independent of scores ft dozens of narcissi.
