LOWER HUTT AFFAIRS

BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING

The fortnightly meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held, on Monday night, there being present; Ihe Mayor (Mr H. Baldwin), and Councillors Meldrum; Carver, Brassell Clendoh. Cotton, Kerr, AVard. and Hobbs. Mr T. M.'.Wilford, M.P.. notified the council that he would bring the matter of railway twelve-trip concession tickets before the Minister for Railways, and, if necessary, mention the matter in Parliament. .. • , Mr J. T. Hawthorn wrote stating that tho owner of the Town Hall buildings had instructed him that the rental of the buildings occupied by the council would be raised, by ~2 as from August Ist. Mr Hawthorn suggested that the council should make an offer to take a lease of the premises at the present rental, and also ask tho owner to. renovate the offices. Tho council decided to offer to lease for five years. It was decided to ask the Mount Herbert County Council for further information in regard to its request for support of its resolution calling on the Government for legislation to enable hospital and charitable aid boards to borrow money for capital expenditure. The Mayor (Mr H. Baldwin) pointed out that, provided security was forthcoming. boards already had the power asked for.
