THIRD ANNIVERSARY ‘ RESOLUTION' OF INFLEXIBLE DETE RMLNATION. In connection with the third anni-ver-.ary of the war-Saturday, August; •Sth—the following circular has been Issued by the Prime Minister (the Right Hon. W. F v Massey) to the .Mayors of the various cities and boroughs and the chairmen of the coun y councils and other local bodies throughout Now Zealand : “On behalf of the Government of this Dominion, I have the honour to ■•.■ quest that on Saturday, 4th August ,-xt tho third anniversary of the doi.tration "of war' with Germany, you , ill call a meeting of the citizens of „„ lr , and submit to that meeting the attached resolution of determination to continue tho war to a victorious end. The same resolution will he submitted to public meetings throughout the rest of the Empire. “When, last year, the people of this Dominion lathered to celebrate tihe second anniversary, our feelings wer divided between our belief that the war was then approaching its crisis, our sober realisation of - .what that meant, our hopes that the struggle would terminate long before the end o this third year, and our profound satisfaction that our sons had proved their right and had been given the opportunity of taking their place with tho Allies on tho Western front. “This year wo shall meet (onr hopes of peace not yet realised), with tho knowledge that sacrifices have yet to bo .faced, and our hearts filled with honourable pride at the thought of how nobly our sons, by their endurance and valour, on the Somme, at Messines, in Efeypt, and in Palestine, have sustained) the, glory of Anzao. “With tho memory of what they hare done, and our deepened knowledge of what we are fighting for and what German" victory would mean, the carrying of tho resolution is this year more than ever our sacred duty. Largely by the manner in which we celebrate this third anniversary will be judged our determination to maintain those ideals of liberty and justice which, as tho > resolution truly states, aro the common and- sacred cause of the Allies.
“I shall he glad if, on August 6th, you "will telegraph to me the fact of the meeting having been held and of the resolution having been carried.' 1 The resolution to bo submitted to the public meetings, throughout the Dom iuion roads as under :
“■"That, on this the third anniversary of the declaration of a righteous war, this meeting of the citizens of ..... . records its inflexible determination to continue to a victorious- end the struggle in maintenance of those ideals of\ Liberty and Justice which are the common and sacred cause of the Allies.
