TO PREVENT ACCIDENTS
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY, BOYs. Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, July 24c ' An inquest .was hold to-day in connectioli with the death of Roy Loder, aged eighteen, who accidentally shot himself on Sunday at Hurford road. From the evidence of a companion, aged seventeen, who instructed deceased how to use the gun; it appeared that deceased and his companion became separated. On returning deceased got through a wire fence, and was apparently pulling the gun through, when the hammer struck a post, discharging the contents of a cartridge into deceased’s heart. Death was almost instantaneous. The coroner, Mr GVooke, S.M., in recording his verdict, suggested that it would be beneficial for boys to receive instruction at school in the handling of firearms, also boating and swimming, especially floating, as well as being impressed with the danger of electric wires, thus preventing many regrettable accidents.
