SUBMARINES’ FIGHT
GERMAN STORY OF ENCOUNTER IN THE OH-aNNEL; The “Rheinische Westphaelische Zeitung ” reported early in June that on April 19th a German submarine while under water in the Channel was rammed hy an English submarine. The shook under water forced the English craft to come to the surface, bringing with it the Gorman vessel., Tho bows of the German submarine, after it was rammed by the British boat, lay over tho latter, and when both came to tho surface the German boat fell alongside the British. Both made frantic efforts to get freo in order to attack. They eventually succeeded in getting clear of each other, the German submarine diving preparatory to delivering its attack. But the English submarine, which bore on its conning tower tho number 35 or 55, disappeared. This is the first time in the war, adds the paper, that two submarines, equally eager to fight, have been unable to do so through being too close. The German submarine, it is stated, succeeded in returning to its base.
