i PALMERSTON, July. 18. A bright little dance was given to the men of the Ambulance Corns’ iix tbe Empire Hall, and being the first dance for manv weeks it was much enjoyed and largely attended. The deoorauom. were gay, and the supper received special attention, both in preparation and disnatch, being well above the average. Mr and Mrs David Collins, of Wairarapa, are staying with Mrs Collins's parents, Mr and Mrs Lionel Abraham. Mrs Walter Rutherford and Mrs Will Rutherford have returned from Wellington. , ~ . , ... Bombardier G, A. Paltndge, who lelt New Zealand with tno Main Body nearly three years ago, and saw a great deal of fighting, was recently killed in Prance. Bombardier Paltridge sent some interesting souvenirs from various battlefields back to Palmerston, and they have been placed in the Museum. Mr and Mrs A. Sutherland have been visiting Wellington. The Loyal Temperance League held its annual entertainment in the Opera House this week, when the building was crowded to tbe doors with mainly a juvenile audience. Dannevirke people apparently nave plenty of faith in the future. A company is being floated to build an up-to-date picture theatre, with shops, tearooms, etc., attached, all on a very lavish scale. A new fish shop has been opened here, and the first two days’ takings, amounting to J 523 odd, were handed over to patriotic funds. The shop during those two days was run bv four ladies interested in these funds. Miss Cargill took three of her pupils (Misses Sidney Brandon, Eileen Trask and Mona Rodgers) over to dance at on entertainment organised by Mrs Dan Riddiford, of Marton. The concert was ;n connection with the Red Cross Shop, which is run bv the Marton ladies ■week about, and who organise other money-raising devices to supplement the takings at the shop during their week.
