BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was belt yesterday afternoon. Mr H. Baldwin (chairman) presided, and there were also present Messrs J. Smith. H. Ireeman, W- Galloway. I\. McLean, and Aitken. , . , A circular letter was received from the Public Health Department asking the board for an expression of opinion in regard to the reduction of the members of the board,. . The chairman said he was in favour of a reduction being made, and had expressed himself to that effect some time ago, but his opinion did not meet with tho approval of the’ other members of th ?l r £uko said that he was also in favour of a reduction on the Srounc that large bodies did not usually do the greatest amount ,of work. He instanced tho Citv Council and Harbour Board, each of which bodies had infinitely more business to transact than the Hospital Board. , , ... It was decided to deal with the onestion at the next meeting of the board. Mr Luke commented on the fact that the number of patients in the various institutions were not placed before the board at its meetings. He drew attention to the fact that the Convalescent Children’s Home at Belmont was not made much use of. The average number of inmates was from five to seven, which practically meant that there was an attendant for each patient. The chairman repnod that the > doctors had been invited to send patients to the homo and the fact that there were few patients spoke highly for the health of the community. It was decided not to refund the penalty imposed on a firm who were seventy-two days ever thbir contract time in delivering a motor ambulance.
