X-RAY INSTRUMENTS
PURCHASED BY HOSPITAL BOARD. On the recommendation of the Hospital Committee, the board bas decided to nlnco an order for up-to-date X-ra> instruments, costing £579 13s. In reporting upon the working or the instruments, Dr Barcluv (medical superintendent) said: —“After careful consideration, I think that in order to do good work in the X-ray department it will be necessary to secure tho services of a qualified medical practitioner who will devote all his time to this work. I would suggest that some voung graduate, possibly one handicapped bv some phyisicnl disability, be engaged,' if necessary sent tor six months to work m one ot the X-ray laboratories in Australia. and then employed at a salary of £450 or £SOO a year; rising £SO per year to a maximum of to J.ave lunch at the hospital, but otherwise to live out; to work nyo and a J half days a week, hours 9 tilt ; to be in sole charge of the X-ray and medical treatment department, with a mechanic, and for part of the time a nurse, working under his supervision. The chairman stated that he did not like the idea of paying a student’s expenses to go to Australia unless the board had some means of holding him afterwards. . It was decided that Dr Barclay make inquiries to see if a suitable man could be obtained, and report at the next meeting of the hoard.
