CHARGE OF BIGAMY
MAN ADMITS OFFENCE. Charles Thomas Luxon was charged before Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M., yesterday with committing bigamy in that he went through a form of marriage with one Amy May Lydia Barker on June 13th, when his lawful wife, Lilian Luxon, was still alive. Accused pleaded guilty to the charge. It was shown in evidence that Luxon was lawfully married before the Registrar in July, 1916, and later that the marriage was solemnised by the Rev'. J. K. Archer. Detective-Sergeant Rawle, who arrested the accused, stated that when Luxon was made acquainted with the charge, he said, “I married again because I was led to believe that my first wife was a married woman prior to my marriage with her. I make no bones about it. I tell the truth.” Later he said he would plead guilty to save trouble. Defendant was committed to the Supreme Court for trial, bail being allowed.
