FAIRY TALES
A PARLIAMENTARY FAILING. “I’m afraid that Dr Thacker is rather given to fairy tales,’’ Said Sir James Allen, in answer to a question from the member for Christchurch East in the House yesterday afternoon. The “fairy tale” was a query on Defence matters on the lines of many other “fairy tales” related to the Minister for Defence by other members during the past several days. In fact, such a string of “fairy tales” have been related to Sir James Allen of late that he should have no difficulty in outrivailing Hans Anderson with the material at his disposal. Nevertheless, the fairy tales appear to worry the Minister for Defence, and his time has been fairly well occupied in explaining how the wicked ogre is not really so wicked, or explaining that he will make inquiries about the little gnomes of discontent and the little elves of rumour that arc constantly, hopping forth from his department. Occasionally “the honourable member” has been misinformed, which, of course, is really another name for the fact that he is guilty of fairy tales. Anyhow, there will be quite a volume of “fairy tales” in the supplementary order paper when it appears this evening, when the questions it contains will be embellished with the explanatory notes from the Ministerial censor of these Parliamentary fairy tales.
