VICTORIA COLLEGE COUNCIL

A meeting of the Victoria College Council was held last evening, Mr C. G. Q. Watson presiding. A statement with regard to the Rhodes Scholarship for the year 1915-16 was presented. It was mentioned that dfteen Rhodes Scholars had been killed in the war, including two from New Zealand—Messrs A. MacDougall and A. Hudson. It was remarked also that by an Act of Parliament, passed on the petition of the trustees, the provision, made in the will ot Mr Rhodes for a certain number ot German scholarships to bo nominated by the Kaiser had been cancelled. These scholarships thus set free would bo distributed amongst the communities within the British Empire not provided for under the wall. On the recommendation of tho finance committee, it was decided to thank the Industrial Association for a donation of £34 3s for scientific research, and also two anonymous donors of £IU each, for tho same. purpose.
