Percy Bernard Overend, a man of 34 years of age, who has been engaged as n storeman by iUiarn iggms and Cn., Larobton qnay, for six years, was brought up at the Magistrate s Court vc-'-itordoy on a <*harge of tlie theft of three rolls of white duck valued at £45 belonging to the firm. It appeared from the evidence presented by Chief-Dolectivef'Boddani that the accused, in the name of John Smith, w-ote to Frank u. Reid, a saddler at Petone, and offered to sell the duck for £32 17s. When the latter, who had done business with \Viggins and Co., received the invoices, he noticed the brands of the goods were similar to their lines, and lie immediately communicated v.-ith the firm. When the rolls of duck were delivered by carrier thev wove found to ho identical with cere's missing from the warehouse. Hr Wiggins, in’ giving evidence, stated thaV’the accused bad hitherto borne » good character, and his conduct had been most satisfactory. Six months • be had suffered a severe illness. The accused, for whom Mr H. F. O'Leary appeared, pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence to the Snrm-me Court, bail being allowed in £25.
