PROTECTION FOR MINERS
MAGISTRATE AND WARDEN AT VARIANCE. Press Association. HOKITIKA, June 18. At a sitting of tbo Military Service Board to-day, the chairman, Mr Evans, S.AI. referred to the published remarks of the Warden, Air Hutchison, who took exception to a statement by Air Evans at a previous sitting, when he said there was no trouble over getting twelve months’ protection for a claim at Kanicri to enable a man to go to tho front. Air Hutchison had °inoe declined to allow more than six months. Air Evans expressed absolute astonishment that there was a warden in the district who, under the circumstances, would not grant such an application for tho full term, and he was going to see that protection was obtained. It was absurd to grant only six months, to a man going to the front- The appeal before tho board was adjourned till the next sitting.
