STORMY WEATHER
GALE ABATES DURING THE NIGHT. The south-easterly gale continued with little abatement in the vicinity of Cook Strait yesterday, and frequent rain added to the wintry conditions. •Shipping generally was delayed at Wellington through the rain rendering cargo-working difficult. The Marnroa, on her run from Lyttelton, encountered a heavy easterly sea sou,n of ICaikoura. with fresh easterly wind until off Capo Campbell, when a south-easterly gale was experienced, with high seas.. Tho Kamo, which left Greymonth at 1 a.m.'on Sunday lor Wellington, did not arrive yesterday and is apparently sheltering. The small steamer Koutunm, en route from Napier to Wellington, was also believed to bo sheltering at Castlepoint yesterday. There were only three, departures from Wellington .yesterday and two arrivals. At 10 o clock last ni"ht the signal station at Seatotin reported that the wind was decreasing, and tho sky showed signs or clearing, though occasional passing showers continued.
