A POPULAR PARADE

NEW WAR PICTURES SHOWN TO MEN AT FEATHERSTON. Many and varied arc the parades that men in camp are called upon to attend. There are, of course, the usual iporning and afternoon parades for drill, parades for night operations and route marches, bathing parade, dining hall parade, shower paiyide, church parade, inoculation parade, sick parade; but until recently, a “picture parade” was not expected to make its appearance on the syllabus. Rumour, however, had been busy tor a few days, and, contrary to the usual experience, proved to he founded on fact. At the staff parade, 1 eatherston Camp, on Monday last, a special order was issued, notifying that a certain specified number of men were to parade at the camp picture hall on the. following day at (1.30 p.m., officers commanding units to , see that the numbers paraded wore correct, and to hand a certificate to that effect to the orderly officer prior to entering tfire .building. Similar orders wore given for a parade of other units at 7.45 p.m., at* the same place, the, two parades covering a proportion from every unit and department of tao camp. , . ~ Owing to the liberality of the Y.M.C.A., assisted by the Governmerit arrangements had been made for a’free exhibition of a series of new war pictures, showing the British war machine from the time the men start training until they reach the front line trenches. The Government stipulated that this film was to be shown to the men in cainp before reaching the general public. These pictures now form the latest topic of conversation, those who attended the packed theatre giving their less fortunate comrades some idea of what they missed Two similar “parades” were ordoied for the following day for the benefit of the men at Tauheremkgu, the men marching into the main camp at cne specified hours, under command o£ their officers. ~, The Featherston Camp Record has circulated widely, and is _m suc.i demand that a second issue is being prepared.
