In so deciding, 1 take into consideration (bo main fact that each Councillor is really a managing director of the city s affairs. i have been in business in Wellington for over a quarter of a century, as most people know, and I have rnado a success of every venture I have undertaken. I have been a ratepayer for very many years, and I have always taken a deep concern in municipal matters. I recognise that the city’s welfare is year's and mine. I have always recognised the prowess of the sportsmen of the community; and in those men wo have, as a country, our greatest assot._ I will not dwell upon ray association with, the sporting bodies of Now Zealand; all connected therewith know me. _ My reason for mentioning that fact is that I stand for the freedom of sportsmen, and I am absolutely against the further curtailment of any of their privileges.
