It is ascribed from Belgian sources that tho Gormans are destroying the country in the vicinity of Zeebruggo, Bruges, and Ghent, implying retirement from there also. SIR DOUGLAS HAIG’S REPORT HEAVY LOSSES INFLICTED UPON ENEMY. (Received March 30, 5.40 p.m.) LONDON. March 29. Sir Douglas Haig reports: Wo captured the village of Ncuville-Bour-ioval. Raiding parties destroyed dug-outs in tho neighbourhood of Arras, Neuvillc-St. Vaast and Nouvo Chapello, inflicting heavy losses .upon tho enemy. A French communique states: Between the Somme and tho Oise there is great reciprocal artillery activity, especially on the Essiguy-Benay front. Our fire dispersed German working parties south of St. Quentin, On the left bank of the Meuse, effective and destructive fire was brought to bear on enemy organisations on Hill 304 and Mort Homme sector. German torpedo-boats fired sixty shells at Dunkirk at 2 o’clock in the morning of March 26th. There were two victims. There is no change between the Somme and tho Aisno. where we are everywhere in contact with tho enemy. We captured, south of the Oise, Important ammunition and other depots. 'We have recaptured the last trenches the enemy was holding on the sectors of the Avocourt Wood and Hill 304, on tho left bank of tho Meuse. GERMANS GET AN UNPLEASANT SURPRISE BRITISH CAPTURE VILLAGE OF BOYBLLES. I NEW YORK. March 29. Mr William Simms, the United Press correspondent in France, says that the British captured the village of Boyellea (three miles west of Croisellos) by means of armoured cars supported by cavalry. Tho Germans laid a trap for what they supposed was a reconnoitring narty, but the British advanced in strength which surprised the enemy, and some surrendered. A GERMAN OFFICIAL REPORT BRITISH AND 1 FRENCH ATTACKS REPULSED. (Received March 30, 6.40 p.m.) LONDON, March 29. A wireless German official message states: Our rearguards advanced north-east of Bapaume and killed many English. French attacks on Champagne'failed with sanguinary losses. We frustrated attacks on a wide front on the loft hank of the Meuse.

Mr Beach Thomas writes:—-“The evacuated territory teems with marvels. There are numerous clockwork mines set to blow up at different dates, colossal dugouts, concreted forts, and underground towns and hamlets. “Restoration work is pathetically clearing up the mystery of many missing Britishers. Former residents are seeking buried treasure near their vanished houses. One resident recovered seventy thousand francs.”
