But for the subsequent ceremony of placing tbe emblem on the finger of the lady a secluded spot is generally chosen, such a s a dimlylighted drawing-room. But impatience or force of circumstances compelled a swain to perform this solemn rite in one of the business streets of this city at midday a day or two ago, It was not a street that is far from the madding crowd either, though it was comparatively deserted at file time. The act was performed with those marks of affection that are .generally understood to accompany It, and the happy pair went on their way arm in arm, blissfully ignorant of the fact that the whole proceeding had been witnessed by more than one pair of eyes through the windows of business premises in the vicinity.
