INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION
PROBLEMS OF NATIONAL EFFICIENCY. The Wellington Industrial Association met last night, Mr F. J. Evans (president) in the chair. Messrs Carter and Guise, biass founders York street, were elected members of the association. The secretary (Mr H. F. Allen) read a paper delivered by Mr T. Ballinger before tho Auckland conference on tho r-uestion of apprentices and their education. It was advocated that the entire school syllabus should be adjusted. to harmonise with national conditions. The chairman suggested that tie paper bo minted and distributed amongst members. Mr Ballinger was of opinion tint a measure of compulsion should be enforced on children in connection with technical education. Tho Education Boards should deal with the subject. It was decided to have the paper printed and set down for discussion at next meeting. A number of resolutions passed by the Auckland conference were dealt with. The chairman suggested appointing a small committee to the various questions dealt with and report. He moved that Messrs Bnllinger, Watkins and himself be a committee to deal with all matters to go before the National Efficiency Board. Mr Watkins said that when the board got into working order they would see big things happen, which would affect all industries. The executive should give the matter serious consideration and give tho Efficiency Board loyal support. Ho favoured a bigger committee. Oil tho motion of Mr Ballinger it was decided to add Messrs Bull, Ward and McClay to the committee. It was reported that £li 14s had been subscribed to the scientific research fund.
