Strong exception was taken by members of the Farmers’ Union executive at Auckland to the disparaging comments which have recently been made by members of Military Service Boards in connection with farmers’ appeals for exemption. In connection with the charge of selfishness levelled against the, farming community at a recent sitting of the Otago Military. Service Board, Mr A. A. Ross, Auckland provincial president, stated that ho had written to the Acting-Prime Minister, calling his attention to the remarks which had been published. The sentiments expressed were very strongly resented by the farming community, and personally lie thought it more than doubtful if a person holding such views, and so indiscreet as to publicly express them, was St for the position he held. The present was a time for united action, and no public official should be allowed to do anything to militate against it. Members of the executive expressed approval of . Mr Ross’s action.
