From Our Own Correspondent. MASTEHTON, December 15. At a concert in the Town Hall last night an oil painting, donated by Mrs W. H. Hosking, was auctioned in aid of the funds of St. Dunstan’s Hostel for blind soldiers and sailors, and realised £470 Is.

At the evening meeting of the Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Club yesterday, the 220 yards handicap was won by Devonshire, the one-mil© handicap by Wadham, the hop, step and jump by W. Grantham, and the three-mile bicycle race by A. Lidall. Speaking at the returned soldiers’ reunion at Masterton last evening, Mr T W. McKenzie offered to contribute £SO towards a fund for the erection of a returned soldiers’ club in tho town. On behalf of bis son ho also offered £SO in aid of a club for returned nurses.

Sergeant W. Heckler, who was wounded in the Somme fighting, is now in the hospital suffering from a badlyinflamed eye.

Tho Wairarapa Patriotic Association has voted Mr D. Heherton, the retiring secretary, £2OO in connection with travelling expenses and the up-keep of a motor-car while carrying out his duties. Mr Heherton occupied the onerous position of secretary for over two years, and carried out the work without salary. He also refused to take any bonus from the Patriotic Association.

The following rink from the Thorndon Bowling Club will take part in the tournament at Masterton: —G. Munro, E. Hadfield, T. S. Ronaldson, and D. Mnnro (skip).
