OLD NAVAL RIFLE CLUB

The Old Wellington - Naval Defence Rifle Club held-their annual meeting at the' boat station on Wednesday evening. The '"president,- J. : R&be. - occupied the chair, . and, there was'a fairly large attendance of members. " In the course bf the president s remarks 'to - the members, be regretted exceedingly that the new-range at Miramar "had been ' condemned, - and as the club had been unable to obtain targets elsewhere-for the past season, all-matches had to be cancelled. The club, however, hope to come to some arrangements this season to carry on'its shooting., Trophies" kindly presented to the dub last year; will 'be competed for' if' possible, but instead .of accepting, trophies, the winners have agreed :tb, accept certificates and to hand the value of the prizes won to some patriotic fund. \ The, election of-officers .for the ensuing year resulted as follow: —President, J. Rabe (re-elected): deputy-president, W. Harris (re-elected); non. sec., F; EFvunklvn (fe-elcoted)hon., treasurer, J. Alexander (re-elected); committee, J. Claydon, R Pringle, F. Standidgs, A. Fellows handicapper,’ Bi; Fellows; - selection comnaitteej J. Babe, AV. - Harris, A.' Fellows: auditor.’ A. Guise; delegates :o Rifle Club' Union, J. Babe; W. Harris and F. B. Ftanklyn. : ' ' The balance-sheet showed the club’s ’financial position; ■ to.':-.be-... satisfactory. Since the beginning of the war;.the ranks of the club have been considerably depleted ,bv the enlistment.of. a numb?r of its members.' Those to'enlist since the last annual report arei as follow :—Lieutenant M. B. Denniston, Rifleman R. Bishop, Rifleman G. W. Dixon rnd Rifleman A. H. Williams. Colonel John Duncan was again unanimously, elected patron of the club. The .names of the vice-patrons’ will be announced as seen as possible.
