NAMES TO BE GAZETTED TO-DaT. A "Times” representative yesterday found the Government Statistician (Mr Malcolm Fraser) and ' the supervising magistrate (Mr'S. E. McCarthy, 5.. U.) still very, busily engaged in cheeking proofs of the list of names of the men Selected at the military service ballot to complete the drafts of the 23rd and 34fh Reinforcements. Mr Fraser Stated that, they had worked late on Monday And Tuesday nights, and would have to-work late again last nigtifc, but they expected that their task would-bo ' finished, and'that the list will be published tc day in a "Gazette Extraordinary-’ - Copies of this ‘‘Gazette’* are to be posted eutsidc the rant l us post offices; and, though under the <■ Military Service AcV the mere publication of a man’s name in the “Gazette” ig "deemed to bo a suuicient notifleation, the Defence Department will at PUCe notify ■every reservist concern f-fi first by telegram and afterwards ’ by registered letter that he has -been called Ups ■ - - As' illustrating the difficulties met With. In ihe'checking.of the list, the Government Statistician stated fl at in some cases the writing on the registration cards was so bad that it was -very difficult to be sure of the exact spelling of the names. For example, one name might well have been either Muller, Hullcr, or Fuller, and for a long time they Could tot decide which of the throe it should be. Hajipily, however, they at last found in the directory at the same address the name of the reservist’s father, alld so discovered that .it should be Fuller.
