SWIMMING

AFTERNOON FOR THE SOLDIERS. The Thorndon Baths presented an animated spectacle on Saturday afternoon, /when the Thorndon Club held a “day” for the boys at Trcntham. Ijigio were present a large slathering khaki-clad men and a goodly smattering of civilians, while the fair sex was well represented. Tho Trentham band was present in full force, playing rousing selections during the intervals between th* event*, , ■ •, ~ In the most popular, event! .of the afternoon —the teams’ race between the club and tho camp—the Thorndon team proved victorious, while the best of the seven other teams competing proved to be that of the 11th Artillery. The organisers of tho gathering, assisted by a ladies' committee, provided soft refreshment to all who cared to participate. The guests being quite satisfied with the afternoon’s arrangements, a dinner for the members of the club and tho camp is being arranged. The results of tho various events follow :
