NEW STEAMSHIP LINE
FOR NEW Z BALAN D-AMERICAN TRADE. SEATTLE WILL BE THE TERMINUS. Passengers by the Makura ?W®i Vancouver bring nows of the promoting of a new line of steamers to run in the American-Australian-New Zealand trade, with calls at Pacific porta (reports the Auckland “Star”). They state that an announcement to this effect has been made by the traffic manager of the Chicago, Milwaukee, and Puget Sound Railroad. This enterprising American company is heading a combination of Seattle shippers which is prepared to build a lino of three combination freight and passenger steamers. The new line is to have its American terminus at Seattle. Contracts for the three steamers are expected to bo placed with American builders within a few weeks.
Passengers by the Alakura further express the belief that the neve line will fit its steamers with a wireless service, which will keep the vessels ih touch with outward affairs throughout the whole voyage. They state that at present the vessels engaged between Vancouver and Auckland are prohibited from receiving or sending wireless messages. “In these days of modern travelling conveniences,'' said a prominent business man, “it is neither convenient nor enjoyable to travel on tombs of silence which do not keep their passengers supplied with the usual summary of the world’s news, or provide them with facilities for sending out urgent business communications. We cannot think that the censor is entirely responsible for this system of silence “
