GIRLS’ COLLEGE SPORTS

The annual sports at the Wellington Girls’ College look place yesterday aiternoon although the weather was not all that could her desired, even in tile sheltered corner of the college grounds, the various events were run I trough well to time, aud the entrants and then' friends seemed to equally eujoy themselves. The girls had voluntarily torgone any prizes this year, preferring to give the money to patriotic purposes, and to make a little to augment the lund for wounded soldiers and dependents, an entrance foe was charged, and a charge made for tea. The tea was entirely donated by the girls, many of whom helped to serve it under Mrs Lawson. lately one of the teaching stafl. The races were run on the lawn at tne foot of the hill, where the surrounding trees made a good spelter, and Miss Latham. os usual, was in charge, with ’ Miss Newman and other teachers looking after the various events. The races comprised' ail sorts of amusing items, sack races and notato races, three-legged, and a pets’ race, which was mostly the performance of dogs o£ all breeds. The most amusing one was an attempt to reach the tape, each competitor carrying a book on her head, and the efiort seemed much more difficult than it appeared. The sports were entered into with much enthusiasm by the girls, every event having a larger number of entries than usual. Among the visitors during the afternoon was the Mayoress, Mrs J. P; Luke.
