BAPTIST UNION

PROTEST AGAINST PATRIOTIC LOTTERIES. Prese Association. AUCKLAND, October 14. The liaptist Union carried unanimously a resolution protesting against the legalisation of lotteries for patriotic purposes. The Rev. G. Howard Lawrence wae admitted a member of the union; - It .was resolved to hold a self-denial week yearly in aid of Home and Foreign Missions.

The treasurer estimates that for the ensuing year the receipts will be .£1292 and the expenditure .£862, exclusive of a special grajit of .£IOO for Tiniaru. On the motion' of the Eev. J. TV. North it was resolved:—"That the Baptist Union of New Zealand endorses the demand of the Catholic Federation that a censor of firms should be appointed. The union believes that the portrayal of !*exual depravity and crime is especially dangerous to the nation. The union also believes that the censorship should be based on the broadest moral considerations." '
