THE PACIFIC TRADE

STEPS TO CONSERVE BRITISH INTERESTS. The Government is sending to Samoa a (receiver for the Deutsche Handels Plantogen Geselschaft. The officer is Mr A. Matheson, who was with Dalgety and Co. in. New Zealand, and has had business experience in tho islands. Mr Matheson had enlisted for service with.' the expeditionary forces, but the Government decided to employ him for special duty. Referring to this matter yesterday, tho Hon. J. Allen said that Colonel Logan, the Administrator of Samoa, had taken charge of the German company already. Colonel Logan undoubtedly was doing his best to conserve British interests among the Pacific islands and to prevent trading with the enemy. Ho did not control Tongan trade, but the whole matter was being watched very carefully.
