THE VON ZEDLITZ CASE
VICTORIA COLLEGE COUNCIL DEFERS SETTLEMENT.,,
A special meeting of the Victoria College Coupncil was held on Saturday evening to receive the resignation of'Professor von Zedlitz. Mr Clement Watson presided over a full meeting of the council. Two letters of resignation, the second more insistent than the £rst, had been received from the professor, and "on 1 the motion of' C. B. Morison the council -went into committee© to consider them and to discuss the-new-position 'created by the Alien Enemies Bill. When the representatives ■. of. ..the press were readmitted they were informed that the council had decided, to defer the matter till their next meeting;" beefcuse they found ■■ that ;'xf,; they were to pass at that piceting a resolution terminating Professor von Zedlitz’s appointment they would block themselves from giving him fair compensation. The bill provided that the governing body might pay to any person whose employment was: terminated by the measure such compensation as they thought fit," not* exceeding on© , year’s- salary." The- council, therefore, had decided.to wait until the Governor’s consent' had been given to th© Act- Mr O. B. Morison and Mr A. R. Atkinson’ have been appointed to draw up for publication a report on the whole matter, embodying Professor von Zedlitz’a letters and the council** petition to both Houses of the Lejpt*. lative.
