DAIRYING EXTRAORDINARY

FIFTY-FOUR MILLION POUNDS OF MILK. Some idea of the magnitude of the operations carried on by the Kaupokonui Co-operative Dairy Factory Co., Ltd,., is given in the eighteenth annual report, just to hand. During the past season the company dealt with no less than 64.084,9131 b of milk, and 2,074,6681 b of butter-fat; the products comprised 107,8001 bof factory butter, and 41,0881 bof creamery butter, and 5,312,1941 bof cheese. The proportion of cheese to fat was 2.611 b, and of milk to cheese 10-0041 b, and the average test was 3.83. The year has been a most successful one, in spite of the war. The directors have made payments, from time to time, of one-half per cent, on the monthly payments towards the patriotic and relief funds, amounting in tho aggregate to £6OO. The store business has shown a steady increase in turnover, and is a valuable asset to the company. After writing off £1497 6s 6d to redemption account, the appropriation account shows a surplus of £40,884 12s 9d, out of which it is proposed to pay interest on shares at £6 per cent—£lls4 18s; a further payment for milk of 4id per lb of but-ter-fat over the whole season absorbing £33,900, making the total payment for the season 18.62 d per lb, and leavinpc a. balanco of £829 14s 9d to be carried forward. The shareholders are asked to elect three directors in +ho place of Messrs T. A. Bridge and B. Long, who retire by rotation, and Mr \V. D. Powdrell, who retires by ballot. All three offer themselves for re-elec-tion. Mr W. J. McDonald has been re-engaged as general manager. The report mentions that the contesting has been continued, and it is remarked that it seems a pity that more of the suppliers do not avail themselves or ,the service; every two points in tho average test makes a difference of onetenth of a penny per pound of fat at tho present prices.
