HUTT PARK COMMITTEE

TROTTING CLUB’S LEASE APPROVED The first meeting of the Hutt Park Committee, since the election of the borough Cornells in April, was held at Lower Hutt last evening. Communications were received] from the ■bower Hutt, Retone, and Eastbourne Councils stating that the following! members had been appointed to represent the respective local bodies: —Lower Hutt: Councillors J. Hobbs, M. J. Hudgins, J. Brossel; Petone: Tho Mayor (Mr J. W. MoEwan) and Councillors C. P. Brocklebank and J. W. List; Eastbourne: Councillor T. W. Pilcher. On the motion of Mr Hobbs, Mr J. . McEwan was unanimously elected chairman for the ensuing two years. Mr McEwan said he would do hie best in tho interests of the Hutt Park, and it was more chan probable that when his term of office had expired he would have done with Hutt Park affaire. A letter conveying the thanks of the Defence Department to the committee ■was received from General Robin, for the offer of the park for the use of troops. The chairman explained that when he heard there was a likelihood of the men being removed from the camp at Trentharu he had written offering the department the use of portion of the park for n temporary camp. Confirmation of the leasing of three football grounds to the Wellington Bu(ji»y Football League for the Reason was' agreed upon. A document setting out the clauses of the lease of the park to the Hutt Valley Trotting Chib was submitted by Messrs Findlay, Dalziell and Howard, for the approval of the committee. After considering the clauses, the chairman (Mr J. W. McEwan). the secretary (Mr W. .T. Gardner), and Mr M. ,T. Hodgins were empowered to sign the lease on behalf of the committee.

A report was submitted bv Mr A. Cowie. engineer to th- borough of TVtnn-. oofi-eming the condition of the nark, hnildines and appointments. Several recommendations were offered in the r—r* end it was decided to make nu inspection before coming to a -decision on the matter.
