Official. —A German attack was attempted last niglit on the Labyrinth, under protection of a violent curtain of fire. The assailants were decimated 1 and completely thrown back. Fighting with grenades and rifles, and a cannonade, occurred at Regnieville and Bois le Protre. v The Germans in tho Vosges attempted an attack on a bridgehead at Sondornacb, on tho eastern bank of the Fecht, hut were repulsed. ■ THE FIGHTING NEAR SOUGHEZ : GERMAN REPORT • BERLIN, July 13. A communique states: —Wo pushed on 650 yards beyond the cemetery and captured the Cabaret Rouge, making prisoner 218 men. Four French attacks at Bois le Pretre collapsed with great losses.^ BOMBARDMENT wIfH'ASPHYXIATING SHELLS The High Commissioner reports:— , " LONDON, July 14, 1.5 a.ra. In Belgium the French and British lines were bombarded with asphyxiating shells. There was a violent cannonade north of Arras. . In the Argonne the Crown Prince’s Army resumed the offensive, sustaining a check. • ' Following a heavy bombardment with asphyxiating shells, tire enemy attacked with important forces, and points in the French line were temporarily deflected, but energetic French counter-attacks arrested the enemy’s progress, forcing him back. (Received July 14, 9 p.m.l PARIS, July 14. . Official. —“The enemy bombarded the Anglo-French lines in Belgium, using asphyxiating shells. The Grown Prince resumed the offensive in the'Argonne from the Binarville-Vienne road as far as tho district of La Haute Chevauchee. After a violent bombardment, and the firing of curtains of asphyxiating shells, the enemy attacked with important forces, including five regiments and fifteen army corps. We momentarily yielded, hut a vigorous counter-attack , drove back tho enemy, with heavy loss.” t ARRAS CATHEDRAL AND PALACE DAMAGED (Received July, 14, 10.40 p.m.) ' . PARIS, July 14. The recent bombardment of Arras was concentrated on the Cathedral and Palace of Saint Vaast, which were ignited. ' Large portions of the Palace were ruined, and the root and organ of the Cathedral were destroyed.
